All Soul's Day

An excerpt from my novel -

Once home she pulled out the worn leather wallet that had been her father's. She held it, smelled it, touching all the cards inside, wondering at the lock of hair (her mother's?) wishing beyond hope that somehow holding it would feel like his hug. Somehow seeing his picture on his university library card would bring his face into focus. Somehow the disintegrating petals that were tucked inside would give her an insight into the man who had been her father.

She missed him so terribly, and the veil was never thin enough.

I look forward to reading the comments. It makes me feel like I am not just posting into the void.
